Misadjusted clutch switch
A switch that works and operates at the wrong point in the pedal travel. Nothing is broken, so nothing measures faulty — the car simply will not crank until the pedal is pressed further than it should need, and cruise control may disengage on its own. Usually the result of pedal or clutch work rather than age.
Typically an easy fix. Often worth checking before paying anyone to look.
