C0089: TCS Disable Switch
What to do
Check whether the traction control off light behaves as it should when you press the switch. The risk is that traction control is switched off without you knowing — so take extra care in the wet, in snow and on gravel until it is fixed. The switch itself is usually an inexpensive part.
What this code means
The traction control disable switch circuit has a fault.
Traction control has an off switch because there are real situations where it makes things worse, and this circuit is how the driver reaches it.
The case everyone meets is being stuck. In deep snow, mud or sand, spinning the wheels is how you dig down to something solid or clear a path — and traction control exists precisely to stop that. A car that will not spin its wheels can be immovable where one that will drives away.
Rocking a car out of a rut needs it too, as does a rolling start on a dynamometer, and any situation where deliberate wheelspin is the technique rather than the problem.
A fault here can leave the system stuck either way, and the direction matters. Stuck disabled is the dangerous one: no traction control in the wet with no obvious sign, since the indicator may be the only clue. Check what the disable lamp is doing — that lamp and this switch should be read together.
On most vehicles it is a simple momentary switch, so the switch, its connector and a drink spilled into the console are all likelier than the module.
