P0489: Exhaust Gas Recirculation A Control Circuit Low
What to do
Usually driveable. Will fail an emissions test.
What this code means
The EGR control circuit is reading low — shorted to ground, or a driver holding the circuit down when it should be released. Disconnecting the valve and re-measuring separates a shorted winding from a chafed harness in one step, and given how much of the EGR loom runs near the exhaust, the harness deserves the first look.
