P0403: Exhaust Gas Recirculation A Control Circuit/Open
What to do
Often driveable with no obvious symptom. The repair is usually electrical rather than a new valve, so ask for the wiring and connector to be checked first.
What this code means
An electrical fault in the circuit that drives the EGR valve or its control solenoid, rather than a complaint about gas flow. The module is monitoring the driver circuit and has seen a current or voltage that does not match what it commanded — an open winding, a short, or nothing connected at all.
This is a wiring and connector fault far more often than a failed valve. The EGR valve lives in one of the hottest, dirtiest parts of the engine bay, and its connector suffers accordingly. Check the harness where it passes near the exhaust before ordering parts.
