P0621: Generator Lamp/L Terminal Circuit
What to do
Have the charging voltage checked. Worth knowing that on many vehicles a failed battery warning bulb can itself stop the alternator charging — so if the warning light never comes on at all with the ignition on, mention it, because that is a clue rather than good news.
What this code means
A fault on the alternator's lamp terminal circuit. This connection does more than illuminate a warning light: on most alternators it also carries the initial excitation current that lets the alternator begin generating at all.
That is why a blown battery warning bulb can stop a car charging entirely on some designs — an effect that seems absurd until the circuit is understood, and one that has sent many people to buy an alternator they did not need. Checking that the battery light illuminates with the ignition on and goes out once running is a free and genuinely informative test.
