P0650: Malfunction Indicator Lamp Control Circuit/Open
What to do
Driveable, but be aware the vehicle may no longer be able to warn you about anything else. It will also fail an emissions test on the warning lamp check alone, so it needs fixing before one.
What this code means
A fault in the circuit driving the engine warning lamp itself. There is a certain irony in a fault whose own warning light may not work, and a practical consequence worth taking seriously: this vehicle can no longer tell its driver that anything is wrong.
It also has a testing implication. An emissions inspection checks that the lamp illuminates with the ignition on and extinguishes once running, precisely to confirm the warning system is intact — so a vehicle with this fault fails on the lamp check regardless of how clean it is.
A blown bulb is a legitimate cause on vehicles that still use one, and worth eliminating first.

Information, not instruction
CarGeek is a reference, not a service manual. Its pages are written from public sources and from what other people have found, never from a manufacturer's own service information, so they can be wrong or incomplete for your particular vehicle. Some of what they describe carries real risk: high voltage, fuel under pressure, stored energy, hot and moving parts.
Have anything you intend to act on checked by a trained person against the manufacturer's own procedure for your vehicle. Nothing here replaces that procedure.

Nothing posted about this yet. Whatever you found is worth writing down — even a dead end saves someone the same afternoon.
What makes one worth reading:
- The car — make, model, year and engine. The same fault behaves differently on each.
- What you measured, not only what you replaced.
- What actually fixed it — or that nothing did, which is worth knowing too.
