P0756: Shift Solenoid B Performance or Stuck Off

What to do

Certain gears will be missing or reached only roughly. Ask for the pan to be dropped and inspected as part of the diagnosis — it is where this fault is most often both explained and solved.

What this code means

Shift solenoid B is electrically healthy but not moving hydraulically when commanded. The gears whose combination requires it are lost, and the transmission works around them.

As with P0751, debris in the fluid is the leading cause and a fluid and filter service with a pan inspection is the sensible first step. The pan is also where the evidence lives: fine grey paste is ordinary wear, but glittering metal or friction material means something inside is coming apart, and finding it changes the whole diagnosis from a solenoid to a transmission.

Information, not instruction

CarGeek is a reference, not a service manual. Its pages are written from public sources and from what other people have found, never from a manufacturer's own service information, so they can be wrong or incomplete for your particular vehicle. Some of what they describe carries real risk: high voltage, fuel under pressure, stored energy, hot and moving parts.

Have anything you intend to act on checked by a trained person against the manufacturer's own procedure for your vehicle. Nothing here replaces that procedure.

Nothing posted about this yet. Whatever you found is worth writing down — even a dead end saves someone the same afternoon.

What makes one worth reading:

  • The car — make, model, year and engine. The same fault behaves differently on each.
  • What you measured, not only what you replaced.
  • What actually fixed it — or that nothing did, which is worth knowing too.
