What to do
On a conventional automatic, expect certain gears to be missing. On a dual-clutch gearbox, expect judder pulling away instead. Ask for the fluid and filter to be checked before a solenoid is replaced — debris is the most common cause of a solenoid that will not move.
What this code means
Solenoid C is electrically sound but not moving hydraulically. The gears whose combination requires it are unavailable.
On a dual-clutch transmission this code family means something different from what it means on a torque-converter automatic: the solenoids there apply the clutches themselves rather than selecting ratios, so the complaint is judder and poor take-up when pulling away rather than a missing gear. Same code number, different machine, different symptom — and it is worth establishing which kind of transmission is fitted before reasoning any further about what the code implies.
