What this code means
A general fault in transmission fluid pressure itself, rather than in a circuit that measures it. This distinction is the one set up under P0842 and it is worth being precise about, because the two families look similar and mean quite different things.
The P0840 codes describe the sensor circuit — a wire, a connector, a voltage out of range, on a transmission whose hydraulics may be perfectly healthy. P0867, P0868 and P0869 describe the pressure. The module has decided, from a signal it considers trustworthy, that the actual hydraulic pressure is wrong. That is a conclusion about the transmission, not about its wiring.
Which is why these three carry more weight than their neighbours. Everything the corpus has said about checking fluid, filter, pump and valve body applies here immediately, and the sensor is no longer the first suspect — it is the witness.
