P0869: Transmission Fluid Pressure High
What to do
Expect a hard jolt at every gear change, worst when driving gently. Not usually harmful to the clutches themselves, but hard on everything else in the driveline. If the transmission is also stuck in one gear, this harshness may be the protective mode rather than a separate fault.
What this code means
Hydraulic pressure inside the transmission is genuinely too high. Less destructive than P0868 and considerably more noticeable: every shift lands with a bang, worst when driving gently, because that is when pressure should have been backed off most.
Excessive pressure does not burn clutches — it applies them harder than intended, so the friction material is not the casualty. What absorbs the shock instead is everything downstream: mountings, driveshafts and the gear train itself take an impact at every change.
Worth checking before diagnosing this as a fault: many transmissions deliberately command maximum line pressure when they enter their protective mode, precisely so nothing slips while they are running on a default. Harsh shifting alongside a limp-mode code may therefore be the protection working exactly as designed, and the other stored codes should be read first.

Information, not instruction
CarGeek is a reference, not a service manual. Its pages are written from public sources and from what other people have found, never from a manufacturer's own service information, so they can be wrong or incomplete for your particular vehicle. Some of what they describe carries real risk: high voltage, fuel under pressure, stored energy, hot and moving parts.
Have anything you intend to act on checked by a trained person against the manufacturer's own procedure for your vehicle. Nothing here replaces that procedure.

What makes one worth reading:
- The car — make, model, year and engine. The same fault behaves differently on each.
- What you measured, not only what you replaced.
- What actually fixed it — or that nothing did, which is worth knowing too.
