What to do

This is often caught at power-on before you notice anything. If the system runs normally once READY, the fault is likely a drifted sensor zero rather than anything dramatic — but it is the inverter's self-protection drifting, so have it seen rather than lived with.

What this code means

The drive motor's current reading is electrically alive but implausible — and this family has a specific, common version of implausible: offset drift.

At power-on, with everything at rest, every phase current should read exactly zero; the module checks this every start. A sensor whose zero has drifted fails that check while working normally in every other respect. Age and heat cause the drift, which makes this the current family's honest wear-out code — still worth the wiring check first, but the one variant where the sensor itself moves up the suspect list.

Information, not instruction

CarGeek is a reference, not a service manual. Its pages are written from public sources and from what other people have found, never from a manufacturer's own service information, so they can be wrong or incomplete for your particular vehicle. Some of what they describe carries real risk: high voltage, fuel under pressure, stored energy, hot and moving parts.

Have anything you intend to act on checked by a trained person against the manufacturer's own procedure for your vehicle. Nothing here replaces that procedure.

Nothing posted about this yet. Whatever you found is worth writing down — even a dead end saves someone the same afternoon.

What makes one worth reading:

  • The car — make, model, year and engine. The same fault behaves differently on each.
  • What you measured, not only what you replaced.
  • What actually fixed it — or that nothing did, which is worth knowing too.
