P0A51: Drive Motor A Current Sensor Circuit
What to do
Expect cautious or absent electric drive while stored — the module has lost its ability to watch this motor's current, and it will not run what it cannot protect. Signal wiring first; the sensor itself lives inside the inverter, which makes it the expensive conclusion rather than the first one. High-voltage territory throughout — qualified workshop only.
What this code means
A current sensor watching the drive motor's phases has failed its circuit checks.
These sensors are measurement and protection in one part. Phase current is how the inverter knows the torque it is actually delivering — the corpus's torque cross-check at P0A17 is computed from it — and it is also the inverter's own fuse-in-software: current climbing beyond safe limits is detected here and shut down here, microseconds before silicon melts. A module that loses a current sensor therefore loses both its measurement and its self-protection on that phase, and it responds the way anything sensible responds to losing its safety equipment: it stops trusting the motor, cuts or reduces drive, and stores this code.
The sensors live inside the inverter assembly on nearly every design — small transformers or Hall devices around the phase busbars — so "replace the current sensor" usually means inverter work whatever the invoice says. That gives the external checks unusual value: the sensor's low-voltage signal wiring and connectors can produce every one of this family's codes without anything inside the inverter being wrong, and they are the half a workshop can reach.
