This code names a part of the charging standard almost nobody knows exists, and the reason it exists is worth the paragraph.
The Control Pilot handshake at P0CF3 has more than two answers. Alongside connected and ready to charge, the car can present a third state meaning ready to charge, but only somewhere ventilated. It is a distinct voltage level on the same single wire, and a charge point that cannot guarantee ventilation is required to refuse it.
It is there because not every battery chemistry charges quietly. Flooded lead-acid packs — and some older traction batteries — release hydrogen while charging, and hydrogen in a closed domestic garage is a genuine hazard rather than a theoretical one. So the standard gave the vehicle a way to say I am about to off-gas, and the charge point a way to say then not here.
Modern lithium vehicles do not normally use it, which is exactly why a fault here is confusing: the circuit is signalling about a mode the car never intends to enter. What it can still do is prevent charging, because equipment that takes the ventilation request seriously will decline when it cannot interpret the state cleanly.
So the practical shape is familiar from the rest of the pilot family: the car may charge perfectly on one charge point and refuse on another, depending on how strictly each reads the pilot.
