Tell any shop about this code before they start work. It means the system's high-voltage capacitors may still hold a dangerous charge after the normal waiting period — a mechanic who follows the usual procedure without checking could be seriously hurt. The car itself is usually still drivable.

What this code means

The charging system's high voltage capacitors took longer than expected to discharge after the charging contactors opened.

This is the safety-relevant one, and it says something that contradicts what everybody has been taught. The universal rule for working on a high-voltage system is: switch off, disconnect, wait the specified time, then it is safe. The waiting works because a bleed resistor drains the capacitors on a known curve. This code says the drain did not happen on schedule.

So the assembly may still be at several hundred volts long after the car was shut down and unplugged — which is precisely the condition the wait is supposed to eliminate, and the one nobody re-checks because the procedure is so well established.

P0C76 makes the identical point about the drive inverter, and the two are worth reading together, because a technician who has internalised the rule for one will apply it to the other.

The practical instruction is unambiguous: verify with a meter rather than with a stopwatch. On a car storing this code the elapsed time proves nothing at all.
