P0E3C: Hybrid/EV Battery Coolant Pump Underspeed

What to do

Expect slower rapid charging and power that fades on long climbs or in hot weather. If the car has recently had coolant work, mention it — a restriction or trapped air is a cheaper fault than a pump, and the two present identically from the driver's seat.

What this code means

The traction battery's coolant pump is turning more slowly than it should.

This is the intuitive direction and the mirror of P0E3B, where the reasoning about load is set out. A pump turning slowly is a pump meeting more resistance than it should, or one that has lost the ability to overcome the resistance it always had.

So the split is between the circuit and the pump. A restriction — debris, a collapsed hose, a stuck valve, or deposits in a cooler — loads the pump beyond its design point. A failing pump — worn bearings, a partially shorted winding, a dying driver stage — cannot reach speed against a circuit that has not changed. A low supply voltage does the same thing and is the cheapest of the three to rule out.

Either way the pack cools more slowly than the car's thermal model assumes, so the derating that follows arrives late: power fades on a long climb rather than being limited in advance, and rapid charging tapers earlier than it used to.
