What to do
Regeneration will be suspended, so a particulate filter warning is likely in time. Be aware that these sensors often seize into the exhaust, so the job can take longer than the part cost suggests — that is normal rather than a sign of anything else being wrong.
What this code means
The exhaust gas temperature circuit reads above its valid range — an open circuit or a short to supply. On a sensor whose lead runs along the exhaust, a wire that has finally parted after years of heat cycling is at least as likely as the sensing element failing.
One practical note for whoever does the work: these sensors thread into the exhaust and are heated and cooled thousands of times, so they seize. A sensor that shears off in the pipe turns a modest job into a considerably larger one, and warming the exhaust before removal is the usual precaution.
