P2032: Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor Circuit Low — Bank 1 Sensor 2

What to do

Regeneration will be suspended, so expect a particulate filter warning in time. Ask for the wiring along the exhaust to be inspected rather than only the sensor — heat-damaged insulation is a very common cause here.

What this code means

The exhaust gas temperature circuit reads below its valid range, normally a short to ground. Depending on the sensor type this reads as either an impossibly high or an impossibly low temperature, and both prevent regeneration — the module will not start a cycle it cannot monitor, and will abort one that appears to be running away.

The wiring is the first place to look. These harnesses are routed along or near the exhaust, and insulation that has hardened and cracked with heat leaves a conductor touching a hot metal surface, which is a short to ground by the most literal route available.

Information, not instruction

CarGeek is a reference, not a service manual. Its pages are written from public sources and from what other people have found, never from a manufacturer's own service information, so they can be wrong or incomplete for your particular vehicle. Some of what they describe carries real risk: high voltage, fuel under pressure, stored energy, hot and moving parts.

Have anything you intend to act on checked by a trained person against the manufacturer's own procedure for your vehicle. Nothing here replaces that procedure.

Nothing posted about this yet. Whatever you found is worth writing down — even a dead end saves someone the same afternoon.

What makes one worth reading:

  • The car — make, model, year and engine. The same fault behaves differently on each.
  • What you measured, not only what you replaced.
  • What actually fixed it — or that nothing did, which is worth knowing too.
