P2053: Reductant Injection Valve Circuit/Open Bank 1 Unit 2

What to do

Inducement deadline applies even though another injector may still be working. The vehicle knows it cannot dose properly and the countdown runs regardless.

What this code means

A circuit fault in the second dosing point on bank 1. The presence of a unit 2 at all indicates a larger engine or a two-stage dosing arrangement, where one injector cannot deliver enough reductant across the operating range.

That has a practical implication when only one unit faults: the system may still dose partially through the remaining injector, which softens the immediate emissions consequence without removing it. The module still knows it cannot meet its dosing target, so the inducement sequence under P2047 still runs — just from a slightly better starting position.

Information, not instruction

CarGeek is a reference, not a service manual. Its pages are written from public sources and from what other people have found, never from a manufacturer's own service information, so they can be wrong or incomplete for your particular vehicle. Some of what they describe carries real risk: high voltage, fuel under pressure, stored energy, hot and moving parts.

Have anything you intend to act on checked by a trained person against the manufacturer's own procedure for your vehicle. Nothing here replaces that procedure.

Nothing posted about this yet. Whatever you found is worth writing down — even a dead end saves someone the same afternoon.

What makes one worth reading:

  • The car — make, model, year and engine. The same fault behaves differently on each.
  • What you measured, not only what you replaced.
  • What actually fixed it — or that nothing did, which is worth knowing too.
