Reductant Tank
Holds the urea solution that selective catalytic reduction consumes, and carries more hardware than a tank usually needs because of one property of its contents: reductant freezes at about minus eleven degrees Celsius. That is an ordinary winter night rather than an extreme, so the tank is heated, the supply lines are heated, and the module will not dose until it is satisfied the fluid is liquid. Freezing does the fluid no harm — it thaws and works normally — but dosing slush reliably produces the crystallised deposits that block an injector. A heater fault is therefore a winter problem that looks like nothing at all in summer.
