P2380: Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor D Circuit
What to do
Ordinary sensor-circuit work on a system with more instruments than most — nothing about the D designator makes it exotic or expensive. Wiring and connector first.
What this code means
The fourth EGR sensor's circuit has failed — and a fourth sensor is the page's real information, because it places the engine among the diesels that run two EGR circuits at once.
Modern diesels split recirculation: a high-pressure path (hot gas, taken before the turbine, short and fast-responding) and a low-pressure path (gas drawn after the particulate filter, cooled, clean enough to pass through the compressor). Each path needs its own valve and its own sensing — position, temperature, pressure — which is how an engine accumulates EGR sensors A through E. The letters index sensors, not failures: D and E are simply further instruments in a system the P0405 family opened with A.
The consequence of losing one is the family's usual: the module runs that EGR path conservatively or shuts it, NOx control degrades invisibly, and the felt symptom is usually nothing. Wiring first, as ever.
