P2576: Direct Ozone Reduction Catalyst Deterioration Sensor Circuit Intermittent/Erratic
What to do
Nothing to feel, and no mechanical concern.
If it seems to follow the weather, say so. A connector letting water in at the front of the car produces exactly this pattern — present when wet, gone when dry — and that points straight at the plug rather than at the sensor. Otherwise the wiring where it is clipped to the radiator is the place to look, since the radiator moves on its mountings and works on whatever is attached to it.
Worth fixing before an emissions test rather than after: an intermittent fault interrupts the monitor each time it appears, so the readiness check may never complete.
What this code means
The deterioration sensor's signal drops out or jumps rather than changing smoothly, and recovers.
Both explanations that dominate here are environmental rather than electronic, and both are described at P2571 because they apply to every sensor mounted in this part of the car.
Water is the first. The connector sits low and forward, in the path of everything the front wheels throw up. A plug whose seal has aged lets moisture bridge its terminals when wet and dries out afterwards — a fault that appears in the rain and vanishes in a dry spell is that, and the weather correlation is the diagnosis.
Vibration is the second. A loom clipped to a radiator that moves on its mountings eventually chafes or work-hardens a conductor, and the resulting break makes and unmakes contact with the road surface.
No effect on how the vehicle drives. As with the rest of the family, the consequence is a monitor that cannot complete — and an intermittent fault is the version most likely to leave a vehicle unable to take an emissions test, because the monitor keeps being interrupted before it finishes.
