P2596: Turbocharger Speed Sensor B Circuit High
What to do
The engine will feel flat because the module limits boost when it cannot read turbocharger speed.
One reassurance: despite the word "high", this code does not mean the turbocharger is spinning too fast. It means the circuit voltage is out of range and the module has no usable reading. The code that does report genuine overspeed is P2594.
If there has been recent work around either turbocharger, the manifold or the particulate filter, say so. This connector is regularly unplugged to reach those and easy to leave off. And if both sides were disturbed, ask for it to be confirmed that the two speed sensor plugs were not swapped — they are often identical, so nothing prevents it and everything looks correct afterwards.
What this code means
The second turbocharger's speed circuit reads above its valid range — an open circuit, a disconnected connector, or a short to supply.
The distinction made at P2581 matters even more here, because this code sits next to one that really does report overspeed. A circuit reading high is an electrical finding: the voltage is outside anything a real speed could produce, so the module discards it. A shaft speed that is real and excessive is P2594. This code is the module saying it has no usable reading at all, and it should not be read as a warning that the turbocharger is spinning too fast.
An open circuit is the usual finding, and a disconnected plug is the free thing to check first — this sensor is disturbed to reach the turbocharger, the manifold and the particulate filter, and its connector is small and out of sight.
On a twin-turbo engine there is a second version of that mistake worth naming: the two speed sensors can be swapped. They are frequently the same part with the same connector, so after work that disturbed both, each can be reconnected to the other's sensor with nothing to show for it. The module then reads each turbocharger through the other's circuit, and the codes point confidently at good hardware. If both sides were disturbed, confirm which loom goes where before buying anything.
