P2618: Crankshaft Position Signal Output Circuit Low
What to do
The engine will usually run normally, with the tachometer or another system misbehaving. If several things stopped working at the same moment, that is a clue rather than bad luck — these modules share one signal line, so one failed input drags it down for everyone connected to it, and unplugging them one at a time identifies which. Ask for that before anything is replaced. The crankshaft sensor is not the part in question, for the reasons under P2617.
What this code means
The crankshaft position output circuit reads below its valid range — a short to ground, or a line held down by a failed input at the receiving end.
The reasoning is at P2617, and the discriminator holds: an engine that runs is an engine whose module is receiving a good crankshaft signal, so the sensor is not the suspect here.
Where several modules share the distributed signal, one of them failing takes the line down for all of them — so a fault that seems to have affected the transmission, the stability system and the tachometer at once is more likely to be one bad input than three separate faults. That is the corpus's most repeated argument in a new place: one shared thing failing looks exactly like many separate things failing. Disconnecting the sharers one at a time finds it.
