P2695: Cylinder 10 Injector Data Incompatible

What to do

As at P2690 — a calibration code is missing or wrong rather than a part having failed.

Ask for all ten injector codes to be read back and compared against the labels on the injectors, rather than just correcting the one this code names. With ten long codes to type in across two banks, one error usually means another, and the second one may not have set a code yet.

And if any of the injectors were reconditioned rather than new, see P2694 — a rebuilt injector carries a new calibration code on the reconditioner's paperwork, and the code stamped on its body is no longer the right one.

What this code means

The calibration data held for cylinder 10's injector does not match the injector fitted there, or is absent. See P2690 for the explanation, and P2694 for the reconditioned-injector trap that applies to engines of this size.

This is the last cylinder the decimal enumeration provides for, and that is a fact about the numbering rather than about engines. Engines with more than ten cylinders exist and their injectors are calibrated the same way; the standard simply continues the family elsewhere.

The practical note for a ten-cylinder engine is that a single coding error is rarely single. With ten long alphanumeric strings to enter against ten cylinders across two banks, the probability that exactly one was mistyped and no others were transposed is low. The efficient response to this code is to read back and verify all ten against the labels on the injectors, rather than correcting the one named and waiting to see what appears next.

That verification is also the only way to catch the failure mode that stores no code at all: a mistyped but structurally valid calibration string, which the module accepts and applies for ever, leaving one cylinder quietly fuelled wrong with nothing on the dashboard to say so.
