What to do
Until this is fixed, assume the car cannot warn you with a sound, and reverse as though it has no parking sensors.
That is the whole point of this page. A warning light that fails is obvious — you notice it did not come on. A warning noise that fails leaves nothing behind at all, so you carry on relying on beeps that are never going to come.
What you are likely to have lost: the seat belt reminder, the lights-on and key-in warnings, the door-ajar chime, and — the ones that matter — parking sensors, blind spot alerts and any collision or lane departure warning, all of which are mostly or entirely audible.
So: look over your shoulder and use the mirrors when reversing, check your seat belt and your lights yourself, and treat the driver assistance systems as absent rather than working quietly.
If your car is electric or a hybrid, mention this to the garage as a priority. These cars are required to make a sound at low speed so that pedestrians can hear them, and on some vehicles the same module produces it. A silent electric car in a car park is a real hazard to somebody who is listening rather than looking.
The car is otherwise safe to drive.

This is the module that makes the chimes, and the case for taking it seriously is the one thing this page has to establish.
A vehicle's warnings come in two kinds. Visual ones have a lamp, and a lamp that fails is noticed the moment it should have lit. Audible ones have nothing. A chime that does not sound leaves no trace, no symbol and no evidence — so the failure of the entire audible warning layer is silent by definition.
And a surprising amount now lives in that layer. The seat belt reminder, the lights-left-on and key-left-in warnings, a door ajar as the vehicle moves off, the low fuel alert — and, more consequentially, the driver assistance warnings that have no visual component at all. Parking sensors are almost entirely audible. Blind spot and cross-traffic alerts are usually a tone plus a small lamp in a mirror the driver is not looking at. Forward collision and lane departure warnings are designed to sound precisely because the driver's eyes are elsewhere.
So the practical content is: reverse and manoeuvre as though the car has no sensors, because for the moment it has none you can hear. A driver who reverses on the beeps gets no beeps, and — this is the whole point — no indication that the beeps are missing.
On a hybrid or electric vehicle there is a further consideration. The low-speed sound these vehicles must emit for pedestrians is a separate function with its own code, but on some vehicles the same module generates it. A silent electric car at walking pace is a hazard to people who are listening rather than looking, and it is a legal requirement in most markets rather than a courtesy.
As everywhere in this family, the module is usually repeating what it was given: a chime is requested by whichever system wants it, so a code naming that system is more informative than this one.
