Fuel Pump Strainer

A fine mesh sock over the fuel pump's inlet inside the tank, catching debris before it reaches the pump. Cheap, almost never inspected, and a clogged one starves a perfectly healthy pump — which is why it belongs near the top of a low-flow diagnosis rather than in the footnotes. Its condition also reports on the tank: a strainer packed with rust or sediment means a new pump would be fitted into the same conditions that blocked this one.
