Fuel Level Sensor
A float on an arm sweeping a resistor track inside the tank, reporting how much fuel remains. It appears among the emission control components for a reason that surprises people: several diagnostic monitors will not run outside a particular fuel level range, because a nearly empty or completely full tank makes an evaporative leak test meaningless. A sender the module cannot trust therefore blocks those monitors, and the vehicle fails an inspection for incomplete readiness rather than for anything it has actually done wrong. Wears a flat spot on the track where the float sits most often, which is why a gauge frequently misbehaves at one particular level.
