Do not try to charge or jump-start the vehicle, and do not let anyone else. A traction battery taken below its safe floor can develop an internal short that causes a fire hours after it appears to have recovered. Have it recovered to a shop equipped for high-voltage work and tell them the pack was deeply discharged. If the car is stored for long periods, keeping it around half charged prevents this.

This is one of the few codes in the corpus where the correct advice is genuinely "do not attempt to recharge it", and the reason is chemistry that has no equivalent in any other battery a driver has met.
A lithium cell has a floor as well as a ceiling. Below roughly two and a half volts the copper current collector inside the cell begins to dissolve into the electrolyte. When the cell is then charged, that dissolved copper plates back out — in the wrong places, including as metallic bridges across the separator between the electrodes. The cell may appear to recover and hold charge normally. What it has acquired is an internal short waiting to develop, and that is the mechanism behind battery fires that begin hours or days after a charge finished, with nothing plugged in.
So a deeply discharged pack is not a flat battery. The manufacturer's instruction on most vehicles is that a pack taken below its floor must be assessed rather than revived, and the car will usually refuse to charge it — which is the protection working, not a fault to be worked around.
How a pack gets here is worth knowing, because it is nearly always avoidable. Long-term parking at a low state of charge is the classic route — a lithium pack self-discharges slowly, and a car left for months at 10% arrives at zero. A balancing circuit stuck on (P0DAD) does the same thing to a single group while the pack as a whole looks fine.
