P012C: Turbocharger/Supercharger Inlet Pressure Sensor A Circuit Low
What to do
Ask whether other sensor faults are stored at the same time. Several sensors usually share one power supply, so a single fault there sets a page of codes that all clear with one repair — worth establishing before parts are replaced individually.
Ask for the connector to be checked for oil. This sensor sits where oil mist from the engine breather collects, and oil creeping into the connector is a common and cheap-to-fix cause.
The car will usually drive, though it may reduce boost as a precaution and feel flat.
Mention any recent work around the intake or the front of the engine, since a disturbed or unlatched connector is a frequent cause.
What this code means
The turbocharger inlet pressure sensor signal is below the lowest voltage the circuit should produce.
A signal pinned below its valid range is an electrical statement rather than a pressure one. These sensors are specified so that their output never reaches either supply rail in normal use — a healthy sensor at the lowest real pressure still produces a comfortable margin above zero volts. That margin exists precisely so the module can tell a broken circuit from a low reading.
So this code means the wire, not the weather. The usual causes are a short to ground, an open signal wire, or a collapsed reference supply.
The reference supply deserves checking early, because it is shared. Many sensors run from one five-volt rail, and a single short drags all of them down at once — which presents as a page of unrelated sensor codes with no common component. Read every stored code before starting; fixing the shared supply clears them together, while chasing them one at a time wastes a great deal of effort.
Unplugging the sensor separates the two commonest cases in a minute. A circuit that stays low with the sensor disconnected is a harness or module fault; one that jumps to the reference voltage points at the sensor.
Oil is worth looking for in the connector. This sensor sits where crankcase breather mist collects, and oil wicking into a connector produces exactly this.
