P0792: Intermediate Shaft Speed Sensor A Circuit Range/Performance
What to do
Expect restricted shifting. This is one case where the vehicle has enough information to identify which sensor is at fault, so a proper diagnosis should not need guesswork.
What this code means
The intermediate shaft speed signal is present but does not reconcile with the input and output speeds and the gear believed to be engaged. Since the sensor exists precisely to make that three-way comparison possible, this code is the comparison failing.
The question it raises is which of the three measurements is wrong — and unlike a two-sensor system, there is enough information to answer it. Two signals that agree with each other and with the commanded gear, against one that does not, identify the odd one out. That is a genuine advantage of the third sensor and it applies to diagnosing the third sensor itself.
