If the vehicle feels like it is slipping — revs rising without matching acceleration — mention that clearly. It changes what this code means from a sensor fault to an accurate report of a mechanical problem, and the two are repaired very differently.
What this code means
The input shaft speed signal is present but does not agree with the rest of what the module can see — a speed that cannot be reconciled with engine speed and output speed together. The reading is not obviously broken, which is what distinguishes this from P0717; it is simply not consistent with physics.
Before condemning the sensor, note that a genuinely slipping transmission produces a genuinely inconsistent input speed. If the clutches are letting go, the input shaft really is turning at a speed that does not match the gear the module believes is engaged, and the sensor is doing its job accurately by reporting it. Distinguishing the two is a matter of whether the vehicle also feels like it is slipping, and it is worth asking that question before any part is ordered.
