P0793: Intermediate Shaft Speed Sensor A Circuit No Signal
What to do
Expect a fixed gear or restricted shifting. Ask what the sensor tip looked like when it came out — metal on it changes the diagnosis from a sensor fault to a symptom of wear elsewhere.
What this code means
No intermediate shaft speed signal where one is expected. An open circuit, a failed sensor, or a reluctor ring that has lost teeth.
As with the other transmission speed sensors, metallic debris on the tip deserves particular attention. These sensors are magnetic and sit in circulating fluid, so a transmission wearing internally coats them in fine metal. A blinded sensor is reporting the consequence of a larger problem, and finding its tip furred is a reason to examine the fluid and the pan rather than to fit a replacement and consider the job finished.
