P0819: Up and Down Shift Switch to Transmission Range Correlation
What to do
Manual mode will be unavailable while automatic shifting continues normally. The fault may be in the paddles, in the selector position sensor, or in the wiring of either — the code says only that the two disagree, so expect both to be checked rather than just the one you use.
What this code means
The manual shift switches and the transmission range sensor are telling the module two things that cannot both be true — most often upshift or downshift requests arriving while the selector reports a position where manual mode is not available.
Correlation codes exist because two independent sources ought to agree, and the module's response to disagreement is the informative part: it cannot tell which one is lying, so it distrusts both and withdraws the function that depends on them. That is why manual mode disappears entirely rather than behaving oddly, and why chasing the paddles alone often finds nothing wrong with them.
