Pressure Control Solenoid
Varies the hydraulic line pressure the transmission works at, rather than switching a gear on or off. Pressure has to be matched to torque: too little and the clutches slip and burn, too much and every shift lands like a hammer. That is why a pressure control fault shows up as shift quality going wrong across all gears — harsh, slipping, or both at different loads — while shift scheduling remains correct. Usually a variable-current solenoid, so it fails progressively rather than cleanly, and its early stages are easy to mistake for a worn gearbox.
