Never have this car towed with its driven wheels on the road — flatbed only. If this code appeared after a tow, wheelspin or a rolling-road test, tell the workshop exactly that: it converts a mystery into a known event and directs the checks sensibly. Avoid prolonged full-throttle wheelspin in snow or mud for the same reason.

What this code means

The position sensor reported the drive motor spinning faster than the system permits.

Two very different events store this code, and telling them apart is most of the diagnosis.

The first is electrical: a glitching resolver signal can compute as an impossible speed, making this a P0A43-style wiring fault reported in overspeed's clothing. No unusual driving history, other position codes stored alongside — that pattern is the harness again.

The second is real, and it has a story attached. The motor is geared to the wheels, so anything that spins the wheels fast spins the motor faster — and the two classic ways that happens are prolonged wheelspin (ice, mud, a rolling road) and towing the car with its driven wheels on the ground. A hybrid towed that way has its motor-generators driven at road speed with the system unpowered and uncontrolled, which is why handbooks demand a flatbed. An overspeed code appearing right after a recovery, a snowy escape or a garage's brake-roller test is the event being recorded, not a sensor failing.

The distinction matters financially in both directions: the electrical version needs a harness repair, not parts — and the real version needs the system checked over, because uncontrolled overspeed can hurt more than pride.
