P0D26: Battery Charger System Precharge Time Too Long
What to do
Charging may not start at all. The car will normally still drive. This is a high-voltage circuit fault and needs a shop with the right equipment; it is not a fault that clears itself or that a different charge point will avoid.
What this code means
The charging system's precharge took longer than it should have.
The mechanism is described at P0D25. This is the opposite direction and the more ordinary one: the capacitor took too long to fill.
Three things make that happen, and they are worth separating because the repairs are unrelated. The precharge resistor may have drifted high with age — resistors do, especially ones that absorb a large pulse of energy several times a day. The capacitor may be degraded, taking a different charge curve than the module expects. Or there is a genuine load on the circuit, drawing current away while the resistor tries to fill it, which is a leak somewhere on the high-voltage side and is the version worth ruling out first.
The car protects itself by refusing to close the charging contactors, which is why the usual presentation is simply that charging does not begin.
