What this code means
The circuit that selects the battery's charging mode is not behaving as expected.
A modern electric car does not have one way of charging — it has several, and something has to choose between them.
The obvious axis is alternating against direct current: slow charging through the on-board charger, or rapid charging where the charge point supplies direct current and bypasses the charger entirely. But there are more modes than that — charging to a user-set limit rather than full, holding a state of charge for battery health, preconditioning the pack before a rapid charge, scheduled charging on a cheap tariff, and on some vehicles supplying power outward to a house or another car.
This circuit is how the selection is communicated, and a Range/Performance fault means the selection is being made and is not what the system expects. So the car may charge — in the wrong mode. That produces complaints that sound like unrelated bugs: a scheduled charge that runs immediately, a charge limit that is ignored, preconditioning that never happens, or rapid charging that is refused at a working charge point.
The pattern to recognise is a car whose charging behaviour has become unpredictable rather than absent. An owner will usually describe it as the app being wrong.
