P2194: System Too Rich at Higher Load Bank 2

What to do

Expect black smoke and poor economy under acceleration. Avoid sustained heavy load until repaired, to protect the catalytic converter. If bank 1 is rich as well, the cause is shared — the airflow sensor, the air filter or fuel pressure — and one repair covers both.

What this code means

The rich-under-load condition of P2192, on the second cylinder bank. The causes and the converter risk are the same.

The bank split does the same work here as at P2193, in the other direction: the airflow sensor, the air filter and fuel pressure are all shared, so a single-bank rich condition under load argues against every one of them and leaves this bank's injectors and its oxygen sensor. Both banks rich under load is the shared-cause picture, and is the more common of the two.

Information, not instruction

CarGeek is a reference, not a service manual. Its pages are written from public sources and from what other people have found, never from a manufacturer's own service information, so they can be wrong or incomplete for your particular vehicle. Some of what they describe carries real risk: high voltage, fuel under pressure, stored energy, hot and moving parts.

Have anything you intend to act on checked by a trained person against the manufacturer's own procedure for your vehicle. Nothing here replaces that procedure.

What makes one worth reading:

  • The car — make, model, year and engine. The same fault behaves differently on each.
  • What you measured, not only what you replaced.
  • What actually fixed it — or that nothing did, which is worth knowing too.
