P2210: NOx Sensor Heater Sense Circuit Low Bank 1 Sensor 1

What to do

The car drives normally. Ask for the harness to be inspected where it passes brackets and edges, and for the connector to be opened and checked for moisture — this is a low-current measurement wire, so damage and corrosion account for most of these rather than a failed sensor.

What this code means

The heater sense circuit reads below its valid range, normally a short to ground in the sense line or in the sensor's internal connection to it.

Because the sense line carries almost no current, a short here is more often external damage than internal failure — chafing where the harness passes a bracket or an edge, or water bridging corroded terminals in the connector. The distinction from the control-circuit low code at P2206 is worth keeping clear: that one is a driven output being shorted, which the module protects itself against by shutting down; this one is a measurement path, and the module simply loses a reading it cannot use.

Information, not instruction

CarGeek is a reference, not a service manual. Its pages are written from public sources and from what other people have found, never from a manufacturer's own service information, so they can be wrong or incomplete for your particular vehicle. Some of what they describe carries real risk: high voltage, fuel under pressure, stored energy, hot and moving parts.

Have anything you intend to act on checked by a trained person against the manufacturer's own procedure for your vehicle. Nothing here replaces that procedure.

Nothing posted about this yet. Whatever you found is worth writing down — even a dead end saves someone the same afternoon.

What makes one worth reading:

  • The car — make, model, year and engine. The same fault behaves differently on each.
  • What you measured, not only what you replaced.
  • What actually fixed it — or that nothing did, which is worth knowing too.
