P2211: NOx Sensor Heater Sense Circuit High Bank 1 Sensor 1

What to do

The car drives normally. If a heater control fault is stored alongside this one, that pair is the ordinary picture of a heater element that has reached the end of its life, and the sensor is genuinely the repair. On its own, ask for the connector to be checked first — an unseated plug looks exactly like this.

What this code means

The heater sense circuit reads above its valid range — an open circuit, a short to supply, or a sensor reporting a resistance implausibly high for any temperature the element could reach.

An open sense line is the most common of these and is indistinguishable, from the module's side, from a sensor that is simply not connected. So this belongs in the same category as P2203: check that the plug is properly seated before testing anything, particularly if the vehicle has recently been on a ramp.

Where the sense line is intact and the reading is genuinely high, the element itself has usually gone open — which is the same end-of-life failure described at P2207, seen from the measurement side rather than the drive side. The two codes appearing together is the coherent picture of a worn-out heater, and is more informative than either alone.

Information, not instruction

CarGeek is a reference, not a service manual. Its pages are written from public sources and from what other people have found, never from a manufacturer's own service information, so they can be wrong or incomplete for your particular vehicle. Some of what they describe carries real risk: high voltage, fuel under pressure, stored energy, hot and moving parts.

Have anything you intend to act on checked by a trained person against the manufacturer's own procedure for your vehicle. Nothing here replaces that procedure.

Nothing posted about this yet. Whatever you found is worth writing down — even a dead end saves someone the same afternoon.

What makes one worth reading:

  • The car — make, model, year and engine. The same fault behaves differently on each.
  • What you measured, not only what you replaced.
  • What actually fixed it — or that nothing did, which is worth knowing too.
