Ask which other codes are stored: a misfire or injector fault on this side of the engine is the likely cause if only this bank is affected, while both banks running hot points at the particulate filter or the fuelling strategy instead.
What this code means
Exhaust gas temperature on the second bank has exceeded what the module will accept. The risks and the causes are set out at P2428 and apply unchanged.
The bank split adds one narrowing worth using: the upstream causes are mostly per-cylinder or per-bank. A misfire belongs to a cylinder, a leaking injector to a cylinder, and both sit on one bank. So a single-bank over-temperature points at that side's cylinders rather than at a shared regeneration or fuelling strategy — and asking which cylinders are misfiring narrows it further at no cost.
Both banks reporting together points instead at something shared: a regeneration that will not complete, a blocked filter, or a fuelling strategy fault.
