P2532: Ignition Switch Run Position Circuit High
What to do
Two things to report if either applies: whether the engine is slow to shut off or keeps running when you turn the key off, and whether the battery goes flat when the car stands for a few days. Both are this fault, and both are commonly diagnosed as something else — the second usually as a bad battery. Otherwise expect a no-start with a car that otherwise seems perfectly alive.
What this code means
The ignition run position circuit reads above its valid range — an open circuit, or a short to supply that leaves the module reading run permanently.
A permanent run signal has a distinctive and inconvenient symptom: the engine may not shut off when the key is turned off, or the module may stay awake indefinitely afterwards. The second is quieter and more expensive — a module that never powers down is a parasitic drain, and the car goes flat over a few days standing.
An open circuit produces the opposite: the module never sees run and the engine will not start at all, while everything else on the car behaves normally. That is the picture described at P2530, and it is the one most often misattributed.
