P2545: Torque Management Request Input Signal A Range/Performance
What to do
Notice what the car is doing when the power goes, and say so — it is the most useful information available and only you have it. Power cut in a way that feels like traction control working, on a dry road with no wheelspin, points at a wheel speed sensor or the stability control system rather than anything under the bonnet. Mention any ABS, traction or stability warning lights, even ones that come and go. Asking for the wheel speed sensors to be checked before any engine part is bought is reasonable and often ends the job there.
What this code means
The torque reduction request is electrically valid but does not agree with the conditions — a reduction asked for when nothing on the vehicle should be asking, or a request that does not match what the requesting module reports over the data bus. The circuit itself is at P2544.
This is the variant most likely to be describing a request that is being transmitted perfectly and made for the wrong reason, and that changes where to look entirely. A stability control system with a failing wheel speed sensor genuinely believes a wheel is spinning; it therefore genuinely asks for torque to be cut, and the wire carrying that request is doing exactly its job. Chasing the wire finds nothing wrong with it, because there is nothing wrong with it.
The signature is worth recognising: power being taken away in a way that feels like traction control intervening, on dry road, in a straight line, with no wheelspin. That is a wheel speed sensor or a stability control fault presenting through the engine.
Where the requesting module is the transmission, the equivalent is a reduction requested outside a gearchange, or one that arrives and never ends.
