P2546: Torque Management Request Input Signal A Circuit Low
What to do
Expect an engine that will not pull, possibly badly enough to make joining fast-moving traffic difficult — drive accordingly and get it looked at rather than working around it. The fault is a wire carrying a request from another module, not the engine, so nothing bought for the engine will help. Wiring that has rubbed through against bodywork and connectors that have taken water are the two usual findings, and neither is expensive once it has been located.
What this code means
The torque management request circuit reads below its valid range — normally a short to ground, or a signal that has collapsed.
On most designs the low state is the asserted state, which makes this the variant that leaves the engine permanently held back. The module reads a standing request to reduce torque and complies with it, so the engine will not make full power at any throttle opening and may be limited to little more than idle.
The mechanism, and the reason no engine part will fix it, is at P2544. The circuit is the thing to test: a chafed wire touching bodywork or a connector that has taken water are the two ordinary findings.
