P2655: A Rocker Arm Actuator Control Circuit Open Bank 2
What to do
Check the oil level and service history first, as with every code in this family.
One thing worth telling a workshop, or noticing yourself: whether codes are stored for one bank or for both. If both, the fault is almost certainly something the two banks share — the oil, its level or its pressure — rather than two parts failing at once, and that is usually the cheapest possible answer. If only one bank, the fault is in that side's solenoid, screen or wiring, and the other bank has already proved everything shared is working.
What this code means
An open circuit in the control of the A rocker arm actuator on bank 2. The mechanism is at P2645.
On a two-bank engine, which bank the codes are on is a free and genuinely useful piece of diagnosis, and it is worth reading before anything is measured.
The two banks share the module that commands them, the oil pump that pressurises the system, and the oil in the sump. What they do not share is the cylinder head, the oil gallery inside it, and that head's own solenoid and screen.
So the split falls out cleanly:
- Codes on one bank only point at something local — that bank's solenoid, its mesh screen, its wiring or its actuators. Whatever is shared is working, because the other bank proves it.
- Codes on both banks at once point at something shared — oil level, oil condition, oil pressure, or the module. Two solenoids do not fail in the same week; oil that has gone past its service life affects both heads equally.
That second case is the one worth catching, because the shared answer is usually the cheap one. An engine reporting rocker arm actuator faults on both banks has almost certainly told you its oil is the problem, and replacing two solenoids is an expensive way to arrive at an oil change.
