U0255: Lost Communication With Front Display Interface Module
What to do
The car drives normally. The main screen will be blank, frozen, or unresponsive to touch.
One observation is worth making before you take it anywhere, because it separates a cheap fault from an expensive one: does the system still work without the screen? If audio still plays, voice commands still respond, or the steering wheel buttons still change tracks, then the computer is fine and it is the display side that has failed — a much smaller problem than a new head unit. Say so.
Try a reset first. These are computers and they hang; the handbook usually gives a hard reset, and locking the car and leaving it to power down fully often does the same. And have the battery tested, since low voltage makes these modules drop off the network exactly as a failure would.
If your car has a screen that folds away or rises out of the dashboard, mention it — the cable to it flexes every time it moves, and that is a common failure point.

On vehicles where the display and the computer behind it are separate units, this module is the display half — it takes rendered video and touch input and connects them to the system that produces them. The split matters diagnostically, because it means a blank screen has two quite different possible causes and they cost very different amounts.
A dead display interface gives a blank or frozen screen while the system behind it is working perfectly. Audio may still play, voice commands may still work, steering wheel controls may still change tracks. That combination — the system audibly alive with nothing on the screen — points here rather than at the head unit, and it is worth reporting precisely because it is the thing that separates the two.
Conversely, a screen that lights up and shows something while nothing works behind it points at U0245.
The physical cause is very often the ribbon or video cable between the two. These run behind the dashboard through a path that flexes slightly with temperature and vibration, and on vehicles with a motorised or retracting screen the cable moves every time the screen deploys — which is the same fatigue mechanism as the door harness boot, in a more delicate cable.
Touch response failing while the picture remains is a related and useful symptom: the display side is alive, and it is specifically the touch layer or its connection at fault.
As at U0245, a reset and a battery test come before any diagnosis, because these units hang and they drop off the network when voltage is low.
