U0237: Lost Communication With Digital Audio Control Module C
What to do
The car drives normally. Expect audio problems — silence, one zone or set of speakers not working, or the whole entertainment system unresponsive.
If a whole list of audio and screen-related faults appeared at once, that is almost certainly one problem rather than many. On many vehicles these modules are wired in a loop, often using fibre optic cable, and breaking the loop anywhere takes every device on it down together.
So the most useful thing you can tell a workshop is what has been done inside the car recently — an amplifier or subwoofer fitted, a phone kit, a dashcam, seats or carpet out, trim removed for any reason. A single connector left unmated behind a panel is the usual cause, and it is free to fix once found.
Also worth mentioning a flat or weak battery. Low voltage puts these modules into a protective sleep, and they then drop off the network exactly as a failed one would — so a battery check belongs before any expensive diagnosis.

A car audio system stopped being one box some time ago, and a third audio module means this vehicle's is genuinely distributed — a head unit, one or more amplifiers, a digital signal processor, and on premium systems separate modules driving zones of the cabin. They pass audio and control between them over a dedicated high-bandwidth network, commonly an optical ring on European vehicles, rather than over the ordinary body CAN.
That optical ring is the thing worth knowing about, because it fails in a way nothing else on the vehicle does. The modules are wired in a loop, each receiving from the previous and passing to the next. Break the loop anywhere — one unplugged connector, one bent fibre, one module without power — and the entire ring goes down. Every device on it disappears at once, and the resulting scan report names most of the infotainment system.
So a long list of audio and infotainment modules reporting lost communication is one fault, not a failed system, and it is very often a single connector left unmated behind a trim panel after an unrelated job — a subwoofer, an amplifier, a phone kit, a dashcam, or seats out for carpet work.
Two specific things to look for. Fibre optic cable does not tolerate tight bends: a loop pushed behind a panel and kinked will stop passing light while looking perfectly connected. And a module that has been put into a sleep or transport mode by a low battery will drop out of the ring exactly as a failed one does — which is why a proper battery check comes before any diagnosis on these systems.
