Ambient Air Temperature Sensor
Reports outside air temperature for air density correction, air conditioning control and the ice warning. Usually mounted behind the front bumper or in a door mirror, where stone strikes and road salt reach it easily. Prone to heat soak if badly sited — reading high after a stop, then recovering once moving.
