What to do

Nothing will be noticeable in how the car drives — this system does not affect the engine. It matters for emissions testing, because the monitor cannot complete while the reading is untrustworthy.

The sensor lives at the front of the car in the path of road spray, salt and stones, so corrosion or physical damage to it and its wiring is common and is worth looking at before the part is condemned.

What this code means

The ozone catalyst temperature reading is electrically valid and implausible — not tracking ambient temperature at rest, not rising as it should with airflow and engine heat, or sitting at one value regardless of conditions. What the catalyst is and why its temperature is monitored is at P2567.

A reading stuck at a plausible-looking value is the characteristic failure here, and it is invisible without comparing the sensor against the ambient air temperature sensor after the vehicle has stood overnight. Two sensors measuring air that has had all night to reach the same temperature should agree; if they do not, one of them is wrong, and this is the cheaper of the two to be suspicious of.

The sensor sits at the front of the vehicle, directly in the path of road spray, salt and stone chips, so physical damage and corrosion are ordinary findings rather than unusual ones.
