Ford's 2.0-litre common-rail diesel across two distinct generations — the earlier Duratorq TDCi, developed with PSA, and the later EcoBlue, an in-house design. They share a badge and a displacement and very little else, so establishing which one is fitted is the first step in any diagnosis.
On the earlier PSA-derived engines, the recurring items are the diesel particulate filter and its additive system, the EGR valve and cooler, and injector wear — with the same short-journey duty cycle behind most of it. The dual-mass flywheel is a frequent source of complaints that arrive described as engine roughness.
The EcoBlue introduced a wet timing belt running in oil, which is the single most consequential maintenance fact about it: the belt has a fixed interval, degrades if the wrong oil is used, and sheds material that can block the oil pickup — so belt failure presents as oil starvation. Early EcoBlue examples were also subject to campaigns in this area. Treat unknown belt history as a job pending, not as an unknown.
Both names cover a range of sizes and this page answers for all of them — the cars listed below run 1.5, 2.0, 2.2 and 3.2 litres. The wet-belt warning is an EcoBlue fact and the additive-dosed particulate filter a PSA-derived one, so the displacement does not tell you which engine is in front of you; the badge and the year do.
